Description
A fly trapped in Madagascan copal. Copal is a partially fossilized precursor to amber, and is frequently used as an inexpensive replacement. It can also be melted and re-cast, so there is the danger that unscrupulous dealers will place modern insects in melted copal and sell the end result as an unaltered specimen.
