Description
Calcite – UV fluorescent
Xia Huan Lin Mine, Hunan Province, China
(left: under normal light, right: under UV light)
Photographed with permission from the collection of John Chivers.
Calcite is widespread and enormously varied in both form and colour. Some like this specimen can fluoresce under UV light. It is notable for its softness (Mohs hardness 3) and ability to dissolve in weak acids as it is basically calcium carbonate. For more information on calcite, see: [link]

Nice comparison shot and really great job of capturing the color. The only issue with this image is the graininess. Sometimes it can't be avoided when using UV lights (they can do odd things to a camera's photo sensors), but the image on the left shouldn't be as grainy.
But it's a great shot for showing the color difference between the two.
