Thailand + Vietnam, back early December

Fri Nov 20, 2009, 7:45 AM
I will try to get internet access when i can, but no guarantees.
Definitely, there will be many photos and I am bringing my drawing tools with me.
Many precious and semiprecious stones too, but its too easy to get cheated so I will stick to stuff I can fully understand.

I have left a detailed travel timetable with CaressofVenus :iconcaressofvenus: if anyone absolutely must know where I am.

Hey, could you give this a look and see what you think about it?

In my uninformed opinion I thought it might be a slice of dyed agate. But I'm uninformed.

It's definitely agate, it may or may not be dyed. I'd look at the outer 'rind' to see if there is any staining in it as the dyed agates very often have that. Also, any cracks, even tiny ones, will contain dye.

That said, the grainy resolution of the photo and the fact that it is strongly backlit make it a bit hard for me to tell the actual colour of the slice. It IS within the variation of natural undyed agate, but more often than not, the brazillian slices like these are dyed due to their otherwise bland brown/grey colors.

It looked dyed to me but I'm not really clear on those subjects, thank you for helping to sort it out!
